How real coaching works,
and why it’s different from what you might expect.
Three principles, five steps, one deliverable. The work is mostly thinking. The output is mostly clarity.
Three principles. Everything else follows.
Most money problems aren’t technical, but rather strategic. Get these three right, and the spreadsheets practically build themselves.
Cash flow first.
Investing matters less than what hits the account every month. We start with the bedrock, not the rooftop. The blueprint must work in the actual life you’re living, on the actual income you actually have.
Multi-bucket, not max-out.
“Max out the 401(k)” is a tip, not a strategy. Retirement, education, and today need to compete fairly for the dollar, in the right proportion for your family. None of the three gets robbed.
Blueprint, then product.
Strategy first. Products serve the strategy, never lead it. If the first conversation is about a product like insurance, annuities, or a fund, then you’re not getting coaching. You’re getting sold.
Five steps from question to clarity.
Every engagement, from project work to ongoing coaching, runs through these five stages. The depth changes; the sequence doesn’t.
Discovery
30 minutes. Free. We see if we’re a fit and scope the work. No homework required.
Data & goals
Secure intake. Document the actual numbers. Surface what’s true vs. assumed. This is the slow part, but it’s also the most important.
Blueprint build
2–4 weeks. Cash flow, retirement, education, insurance, tax positioning, estate basics. The technical work happens here.
Blueprint delivery
We walk through the blueprint together. You ask questions. You take it home. You read it again it on the porch with a coffee.
Implement & review
Ongoing if engaged; one-time if project-based. Blueprints don’t execute themselves; this is where we make them real.
Your full blueprint, on one page.
The technical version can run sixty pages. The version you actually use should fit on one. That’s the One-Page Blueprint: every decision, every action item, every benchmark, all distilled to a single document you can post on the fridge.
Inspired by gleaning the best parts of leading financial frameworks, refined for your specific buckets and timeline. It’s the document your spouse or loved ones can read in ninety seconds and your future self will thank you for.
What I don’t do.
Naming what isn’t in the room is the surest way to build trust. Here’s what you’ll never get from me — on purpose.
- Sell insurance products on commission
- Manage your assets directly or take custody
- Make investment picks based on tips or guesses
- Pretend to know what the market will do next quarter
- Recommend strategies I wouldn’t recommend my own family
- Lock you into a multi-year contract you can’t exit
- Charge you for products you didn’t ask for
Modern tools. Old-fashioned discretion.
I use professional financial software (RightCapital), a secure document portal (encrypted at rest), end-to-end encrypted communications for sensitive material, and a CRM that respects your data. None of this is exciting on a website. It’s deeply boring to set up. Which is exactly the point.
